Responsible and Effective Designs
Williamsport Brewery
An adaptive reuse project that I had the privilege of surveying during the predesign phase of the project. The entire cohort came together to create a model for the space and then we individually created proposals for renovating the existing building. We were able to interview the client during the concept development phase and the experience of working with the building owner.
The client requested a street level bar and a large event space on the fourth floor within the project. We were then given creative freedom to implement other uses into the building. I chose to propose a community makerspace, restaurant, café, and rooftop garden to the building to respond to the needs of Lycoming College and Pennsylvania College of Technology student body.

AN OVERVIEW
Understanding the application of design choices.
SUSTAINABLE FEATURES
This building was designed with sustainability in mind. With this being said, The shape of the building aimed to allow for sunlight penetrate each staggered tier of the structure, giving each tenant optimal exposure to natural light. On the top of the building a green roof can be seen, the green roof will help limit the footprint impact that the structure has on the site.
AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
The project scope was expanded after we had laid out the inital structure. We were asked to create an accessible tenant space for one of the studio apartment spaces we had laid out. With our proposal, having the apartment on the top floor meant that we had to create an accessible route from the parking lot, up to the residential stair tower and elevator shaft, and from there make sure all fixtures were within regulation.
KEY FEATURES
The bathroom was designed to provide ease of use for the resident and to also maintain the upscale aesthetic. The vanity was designed to allow roll up use. The open shower has a fold up seat and ADA shower head features, and the low laundry machines allowed ease of access and use.
EXTERIOR SPACE
Being so close to the second tenant and sharing the stepped terrace space, designers decided to create a natural barrier by creating a covered patio with trellis walls for vines to grow. This space crates a private atmosphere atop the building that also opens up to an exposed garden.
